Lets be Nomads

How can you do something new in adventure travels? It ain’t easy. Everything has been done, right? Well, think twice. Every now and then a dreamer comes along with a quirky vision and the iron will to turn it into reality. One of those visions is called “Let’s be Nomads”.

Let the adventure begin

Think, travelling the world in an old-school bus that has been repurposed into a hostel with all the gear on board that a five-year-old kid would pack in preparation for summer camp:

  • a beamer for outdoor cinema,
  • surfboards,
  • a longboard,
  • mountain bikes,
  • guitars,
  • a record player,
  • fire bowls
  • volleyball equipment,
  • Fatboys and hammocks to chill in,
  • and obviously, a slackline to hang up between trees whenever you park the bus.

The best about this vision is that it is already a reality. Val and Tim, the adorable founders of “Let’s be Nomads” have put in a hell of an effort, to turn an old yellow school bus into a proper hostel on wheels. They have installed showers, bedrooms and a full kitchen including a chill out area that looks ridiculously cosy. There’s even a rooftop terrace on top of the bus! WTF! This is Pipi Longstocking type of phantasies come true.

Admittedly, there have been similar concepts, especially in the US. Yet, few have brought the idea to life with so much love to details.  “We were very happy that it actually took 1,5 years to get all the necessary approvals. That gave us the time to really fine tune things,” says Val. “The idea was to create the perfect adventure holiday. That is not only about the hostel itself but also about the locations. If the snow is bad, we simply go to another place. If the waves aren’t good, we drive to a different beach.”

Adventure is what you make of it

“As a life philosophy, we’re always capable of doing the best out of any situation. That also means finding beautiful spots even in places, where it is not so nice and we create a good atmosphere, no matter where we are. It’s about what you do with what you have in the moment itself,” explains Tim of “Let’s be Nomads”.

Needless to say, that the biggest part of any adventure travel is the people. Traveling and living together on a small premise is the perfect soil for meaningful conversations, whacky fun and a strong sense of community. Sometimes travelers just stay for a single night, sometimes they stick around for weeks on end. It’s still a hostel after all.

As self-proclaimed thrill seekers, Val and Tim go with the snow. Or the waves. Or the trails. Whatever carries the promise of adventure, really. Unfortunately, winter season is almost over. So, our chances to shred some powder with the Nomads on their way through Austria are fairly low. But their next destination is already set: Norway. And we’d be dumb found, if there weren’t countless adventures waiting to be uncovered in the northern territory.
